beth 2.0

i realize i'm about 5 years behind the rest of my peers doing this, but i finally have my own domain *drumroll* ......

it is......   bethgo.com   yay!

i don't have a good explanation for why it took so long to do so,  however the last three days of getting this all up and running has impressed upon me that self hosting your own blog/website is still not for the average joe and jane consumer.

am i excited to have all sorts of flexibility and control?  yes!
do i look forward to munging up my blog as i learn what the hell i'm doing?  of course!
am i at all envious of the folks who sucked down years of html knowledge the last 10 years?  *nods emphatically*

i have to say it; i feel the same sense of endless possiblity that i did when i left aol in 1994 to journey forth onto the wall-less world wide web.  yippee!!

roll your own irish mafia overruns the streets of boston film festival

there are actually quite a few films i could list here as well as that new showtime show: brotherhood , however, this past weekend i had the good fortune of seeing the two movies i'll list here right in a row - and let me tell you a good time was had by all.

so when the halloween party i was supposed to attend saturday sort of fell through (and me looking all adorable in my hogwarts school uniform)... i was left with a stack of dvd's i was supposed to give someone at the fest.  so upon arriving at home i noticed the top one was a movie i hadn't heard of *gasp* as if there could be such a thing.  it was the boondock saints which is fast becoming a bit of a cult classic, not only because it's just a kick ass film, but because it appears there is some history as to why it has taken seven years for it to start making the rounds.  you can decide which side of " developing both a cult following and enmity from film goers" you fall on.  but i think i'm solidly setting up stakes in the first camp as i thoroughly enjoyed this flick.

on sunday i followed up by an impromptu trip to the theater for a matinee of the departed, martin scorcese's new picture.  in typical scorcese fashion it was a nail biter and about 30 minutes too long (damn you casino - i want those three hours back).  jack was classic jack.  leo brooded.  damon resurrected that fabulous accent from good will hunting.  and i could have handled about 90% more mark wahlberg in the film.  all in all it was definitely worth my $7 and braving what ended up being one of the coldest days i think we've had in seattle in a long long time.

trying works

this has been making the rounds, but in case you missed it Scott Adams the genius behind Dilbert has an amazing personal story about why you should never give up hope.

what's wrong with crossing the street?

"Going to the other side of the street can be a barrier," said Launi Skinner, senior vice president in charge of Starbucks' store development.

what's the point of trackbacks?

***update*** trackbacks have been turned off for public sites...i can now go back to fuming about other random petty things for the rest of the day.

please please please someone tell me what the point of trackbacks is!!??  all i get are spammy links to bizarre search sites and other such nonsense.  i'm having a frustrating internet day full of rants and rages about too many social networking sites so please ignore me.  but seriously i can't keep up....

ultimate in lazy driving machine

so my car is in the shop getting some dents fixed from my year in the trenches of san francisco traffic and parking.  the loaner they give me has the "keyless" system.  and when they say "keyless" they don't mean the little metal thing that you used to use to open doors and start the car.... they mean you need nothing.  nothing.  i walk up to the car and doors unlock.  i push a button and the car starts and stops.  i walk away and the car locks.  *jaw drops* ok so we've gone from turning a key in the lock being an inconvenient ordeal to pushing a little button on a keyfob being an inconvenient ordeal.  i'm counting on the day that zefrank gives this some airtime...
